Overview
Backdrop is an AI copilot for live customer calls and meeting preparation. It helps reps answer technical and account questions using company knowledge, past calls, and connected tools. Connecting Attio brings relevant CRM context into Backdrop: the people and companies involved, deal information, and the notes and follow-ups from earlier conversations. Reps can ask questions about that context without leaving Backdrop.
How it works
Each person connects their own Attio account through Attio's hosted MCP server. Backdrop uses that person's connection and Attio permissions to retrieve relevant information for meeting preparation and answers before, during, or after a call.
Backdrop can search and read records, including people, companies and deals; object and list attribute definitions; lists and list entries; notes; comments and replies; tasks; meetings; and previous call recordings and transcripts. Backdrop reads workspace member details to identify deal owners and task assignees by name when answering questions about your CRM. It uses this context alongside other connected knowledge to answer questions such as "What did we promise this customer about SSO?" or "What stage is this deal in?" Answers identify the source information so the rep can check it.
Retrieval happens as needed for research and answering questions; Backdrop does not continuously sync or bulk-export the Attio workspace. Attio's consent screen grants MCP execution, offline access, and identity permissions. Within Backdrop, only a fixed set of read and search tools is enabled. Backdrop does not create, edit, merge, or delete Attio data, push call notes, or register webhooks. The connection is personal and cannot be used by other Backdrop members.
Configure
Install the Backdrop desktop app from https://www.getbackdrop.ai/help/install and sign in.
Open Knowledge in the sidebar, find Attio, and click Connect on its card. In the Personal row, click Connect to open Attio's authorization page.
Sign in to Attio if needed, select your workspace, review the MCP permissions, and click Confirm. Return to Backdrop. When the Attio card shows For you, the connection is ready. Ask a question about an Attio record or note, or use the connection for meeting preparation and in-call questions.
To disconnect, open Knowledge, click Manage on the Attio card, and choose Disconnect in the Personal row, then confirm. Backdrop stops using that connection. You can also revoke access in Attio.
