Best practices for prompts
Use these best practices to write clearer prompts that help Ask Attio understand your data and deliver more useful results.
Add context about your data model
While Ask Attio can access your data, it may not understand what specific objects, attributes, or workflows represent. If your prompt depends on an understanding of your data model or a specific use case, include that context directly in the prompt.
Use a clear prompt structure
For more reliable results, structure your prompts using three sections: Context, Task, and Constraints. Before running a prompt, make sure you have answered each of the following.
Context
Specify which objects or sources Ask Attio should use, such as companies, deals, emails, notes, call recordings, or web research.
Define any limits to the scope of the request, like “last quarter” or “active deals only”.
Task
Describe what you want Ask Attio to do in plain language.
Focus on the outcome, such as summarizing an account, drafting a follow-up email, or identifying blockers and next steps.
Constraints
Define the output format, such as bullet points, headings, or a checklist.
Set any expectations for length or tone.
Add guardrails or exclusions, like excluding inactive deals.
This structure makes prompts easier to reuse, more predictable in their results, and more consistently actionable.
Example prompt
Context
You are summarizing a specific call recording. You have access to the call transcript, notes linked to the meeting, meeting participants, and other linked records.
Task
Create a call recap that captures:
Call overview: what was the call about (1-2 sentences), primary goals of the call, outcome
Participants: who attended and their roles
Key topics: the main themes covered, grouped into 3-5 bullet sections
Decisions: any decisions made
Next steps: the concrete next actions
Constraints
Use the following output structure:
Be concise and actionable, avoid long paragraphs
Keep the recap actionable, focus on what matters for follow-up
If there is no relevant call recording or meeting in context, ask the user to confirm what the relevant call or meeting is before proceeding
Note: Prompts are private to you. Other workspace members cannot see your custom prompts.
