Overview

Tapni is a business card platform that replaces traditional business cards with NFC-powered digital profiles. When your team members scan business cards, or share their Tapni cards at events, meetings, and conferences, every new contact is captured instantly in the Tapni dashboard — complete with name, email, phone, job title, company, and custom notes.

The Tapni integration for Attio brings those contacts directly into your CRM workspace as people records, eliminating manual data entry and ensuring no lead falls through the cracks. Whether your sales team is networking at a trade show or your executives are meeting prospects over coffee, every connection flows into Attio in real-time.

Key capabilities:

  • Automatic real-time sync: Every new contact captured via Tapni is instantly exported to Attio as a person record. No manual steps required.
  • Bulk export: Export your full Tapni contact history to Attio with a single click from the Tapni Business Dashboard.
  • Smart upsert: When a contact already exists in Attio (matched by email), the integration can update the existing record instead of creating duplicates. You control whether updates apply to all matching contacts, only those originally exported by Tapni, or are disabled entirely.
  • Configurable field mapping: Map any Tapni contact field — including custom profile fields, tags, and team information — to any Attio people attribute. The default mapping covers email, name, phone, job title, company, and website, but you can customize it to fit your workflow.
  • Export on contact update: Optionally re-sync contacts to Attio whenever they are updated in Tapni, keeping your CRM data fresh as relationships evolve.
  • Full logging and visibility: Every export is logged with success/error status, so your team always knows what synced and what needs attention.

The integration is designed for B2B teams that rely on face-to-face networking and need their CRM to reflect every interaction without friction. It works across all Tapni products including NFC cards, stickers, bands, and the Tapni mobile app.

How it works

Tapni integration connects to your Attio workspace via OAuth. Once authorized, it syncs contacts from Tapni into Attio people records using the following flow:

  1. Connect your workspace Open the Tapni Business Dashboard, navigate to Integrations, and click "Connect with Attio". You will be redirected to Attio to authorize the connection. Tapni requests permission to read and write records and read workspace members. Once approved, the integration is active.

  2. Configure sync behavior After connecting, choose how the integration operates:

    • Enable auto-export to automatically push every new Tapni contact to Attio in real-time.
    • Enable export on update to re-sync contacts whenever they are modified in Tapni.
    • Set a contact update mode: "Disabled" creates new people only; "Update Tapni-created" updates records that were previously exported by Tapni; "Update all" updates any person in Attio with a matching email address.
  3. Customize field mapping The Fields Mapping tab lets you control exactly which Tapni data maps to which Attio attribute. By default, email maps to email_addresses, first and last name to the name attribute, phone to phone_numbers, job title to job_title, company to company, and website to website. You can add or change mappings, including Tapni-specific fields like tags (markers) and custom profile fields.

  4. Contacts flow into Attio When a team member captures a new contact through their Tapni card, whether via NFC tap, QR scan, or manual entry. The integration immediately creates or updates a person record in Attio. The contact's email is used as the matching attribute, leveraging Attio's native assert (upsert) capability to prevent duplicates.

  5. Bulk export existing contacts Already have contacts in Tapni? Use the Export dropdown on the Connections page to push your full contact list to Attio in one batch. The same field mapping and update mode rules apply.

  6. View synced contacts After export, each Tapni connection shows a direct link to the corresponding Attio person record, so your team can jump straight to the CRM with one click.

Workspace members from Attio are fetched during export to support owner mapping, allowing you to associate each contact with the correct team member in your CRM.

Configure

Prerequisites:

  • A Tapni Business account with an active workspace.
  • An Attio workspace where you have permission to install integrations.

Step 1: Install the integration In the Tapni Business Dashboard, go to Integrations and click the Attio tile. Click "Connect with Attio" to begin the OAuth authorization flow. You will be redirected to Attio, where you must approve the following permissions:

  • Read-write on records (to create and update people)
  • Read on workspace members (to map contact owners)
  • Read on object configuration (to sync available field definitions)

After approving, you are redirected back to Tapni and the integration is connected.

Step 2: Enable automatic sync Toggle "Auto-Export Tapni contacts into Attio" to enable real-time sync. When enabled, an automation is created that exports every new contact to Attio as soon as it is captured. Optionally, enable "Export when contact is updated" to also sync changes to existing contacts.

Step 3: Set update mode Choose how the integration handles contacts that already exist in Attio:

  • Disabled: Only create new people records. If a person with the same email already exists, the export is skipped.
  • Update Tapni-created only: Update people records that were originally created by a previous Tapni export. Other records are left untouched.
  • Update all matching contacts: Update any person in Attio whose email matches the exported contact. Use this mode when you want Tapni to be the authoritative source for contact data.

Step 4: Configure field mapping Navigate to the Fields Mapping tab. The integration pre-loads available Attio people attributes from your workspace. For each field, choose the Tapni source (e.g., email, first name, phone, tags, custom profile fields) and the target Attio attribute. Toggle the overwrite flag per field to control whether existing values in Attio should be replaced during updates.

Default field mapping:

  • Email → email_addresses
  • First name → name (first_name)
  • Last name → name (last_name)
  • Job title → job_title
  • Phone → phone_numbers
  • Company → company
  • Website → website
  • Tags → description

You can add additional mappings or remove defaults to match your team's workflow. Click "Sync Fields" to refresh the list of available Attio attributes if you have added custom attributes to your Attio workspace.

Step 5: Save changes Click "Save Changes" to apply your configuration. The integration is now active and will operate according to your settings.

Disconnecting: To disconnect the integration, navigate to the Attio integration page in Tapni and disable the sync toggles. To fully remove access, revoke the Tapni app from your Attio workspace settings at app.attio.com.
