Kanban views enable you to visualize records as cards progressing through stages of a pipeline or process. You can drag and drop cards between stages, customize visible attributes, and apply filters to tailor the view.

For help building the right views and understanding how they work with objects and lists, see [Define your data model: objects, lists, and views](https://attio.com/help/reference/attio-101/attios-data-model/define-your-data-model-objects-lists-and-views).

## Using kanban views

> For a video walkthrough of views, including how to create and customize a kanban view, see **Views** in Attio Academy.

### Create a kanban view

To create a view from an existing view, click the name of your current view, select **+ Create new** in the view dropdown, then select **Kanban**. Give your view a name and select a status attribute or create one. The status will have the stages your cards will move through in a process, e.g. **Sales stage**.

### Take actions on a card

Each kanban card has two sets of actions.

Hover over the record name at the top of the card to reveal:

- **Edit entry:** Opens a dialog where you can edit every attribute value on the record.
- **Open preview:** Opens the record in a [record preview](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/records/create-and-view-records#preview-a-record-from-a-table-or-kanban-view) so you can see its details without leaving your board.

At the bottom of the card, click:

- **Create note:** Adds a note linked to the record.
- **Create task:** Adds a task linked to the record.
- **Add comment:** Opens comments for that record.

### Hiding or adding stages

Click a stage name followed by **Hide stage** to hide a stage in your view, or **Collapse stage** to collapse it while keeping it visible. You can also click **View settings** to re-order, hide, and add stages to your kanban view.

To hide the **No stage** column from your kanban view, follow these steps:

- Click **View settings**.
- Choose **Visible columns** from the dropdown.
- Toggle **No status** to hide this column.

To add a stage to your view:

- Click **View settings**.
- Choose **Visible columns**.
- Then, toggle on the stages you want to add.

### Collapse columns and cards

Collapse columns and cards to fit more of your board on screen at once. This is separate from collapsing an individual stage, and applies to the whole board.

- Click the columns toggle at the top right of your kanban view to **Collapse columns** or **Expand columns**. Collapsed columns show only the stage color, name, and record count.
- Click the cards toggle next to it to **Collapse cards** or **Expand cards**. Collapsed cards only show the record names.

### Bulk update stage for kanban cards

You can select multiple kanban cards in a view and move them from stage to stage. Hover over a card and check the box that appears in the top left corner to select it. You can also select a card, hold **shift**, scroll down, and select another card in the same stage to select all cards in between. You can then drag and drop selected cards to move them into a new stage simultaneously.

### Confetti stages

Click on any stage name in a kanban view and toggle on **Confetti** - each time a card is moved to this stage a confetti canon will fire 🎉 - great for celebrating wins big and small.

## View settings

Adapt your kanban to fit any part of your process or workflow. Add filters, change how things look, and narrow down your pipeline to focus on what's important. Click **View settings** in your kanban view to get started.

### Display attributes

Attribute values can be viewed and edited directly on kanban cards. You can configure your kanban views to display certain attributes and hide others.

To add an attribute so it is visible on your kanban cards, follow these steps:

- Open **View settings** at the top of your kanban view.
- Click **+ Add attribute to view**.
- Select the attributes you would like to see.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1218x1000/4db0d48a35/visible-attributes-kanban.png)

Reorder your attributes by dragging and dropping the visible attributes in **View settings** any time.

Toggle attribute labels on or off with **Show attribute label**. To edit an attribute label, click the edit icon to the right of the attribute name under **View settings**. This only changes the label in your current view and does not rename the underlying attribute.

Hide attributes with no value from cards by enabling the **Hide empty attributes** toggle.

For date, timestamp, and currency attributes, you can find additional formatting options by clicking **View settings**, the **⋮** icon to the right of an attribute, then **Formatting**:

- For date and timestamp attributes, choose whether to display values as absolute dates/times, or as relative values (i.e. "in 3 days")
- For currency attributes, choose how you want the currency label displayed, and toggle decimal values and grouping on or off

[Learn more about the different types of attributes you can create, and how to manage them](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/attributes/create-manage-attributes).

#### View attribute edit history

For any attribute displayed, right-click on a value and select **View edit history** to see the history of edits made to the attribute including who or what updated it.

> **Note:** Edit history is only available on Pro and Enterprise plans. [Learn more about plans and pricing](https://attio.com/pricing).

### Filter a kanban view

To remove a filter condition, select the **⋮** icon to the right of it, then click **Delete condition**.

### Sort a kanban view

Change how your entries are sorted in your kanban view.

### Display, filter, and sort by attributes linked via relationships

If the records in your view are linked to other records through relationship attributes, you can use those linked attributes in your view. This includes both the relationship attribute itself and any attribute from the linked record. You can display them on cards or use them in filters and sorting. [Learn more about relationship attributes](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/attributes/relationship-attributes).

For example, if you want to include company details in a Deals kanban view, such as Domains or Categories, based on each deal’s associated company:

1. Open your **Deals** view.
2. Go to **View settings**.
3. Select **Add attribute to view**.
4. Choose **Associated company** (or another relationship attribute).
5. Select the company attribute you want to display, such as **Domains**, **Categories**, or **Employee** **range**.

This will show company information directly on each deal card.

### Track time in stage

You can also track how long a card stays in a stage by clicking on the stage name. Toggle **Track time in stage** on and set your target time - once this period has expired the counter in the bottom right corner of the card will turn red.

![Settings on kanban column showing track time in stage enabled with target time set to 7 days](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1024x682/70ad92fc3a/track-time-in-stage-kanban.png)

To sort by time in stage, select **Sort**, select the status attribute you're using, select **Active from**, then choose either **↑Ascending** or **↓Descending**.

### Calculations in kanban views

You can perform a variety of instant calculations on numeric values in a kanban view. Attributes with non-numerical values support **empty**/**filled** calculations.

Use **+ Add calculation** at the very bottom of a kanban stage to see your options.

## FAQ

### How can I filter to see records in a pipeline stage in a certain date range?

When you go to add a filter, select the Status attribute you would like to filter for and then select **was**. You will then be able to select the stage and the time boundaries to show a list of the records that were in that stage for certain dates.

If you want to specify a date range with **before** a given date and **after** another date, set the first date filter, then use the **[Convert to group](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/views/filter-and-sort-views)**[ option](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/views/filter-and-sort-views) to set the second date filter.
