Learn how to create and manage multiple pipelines in Attio.

> Available on all plans.

> Only admins can enable, create, and manage objects and attributes.
>
> The Deals object approach works on all plans. [Custom objects](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/objects/create-and-manage-custom-objects) and [custom relationship attributes](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/attributes/relationship-attributes) are available on Pro and Enterprise plans. The number of objects you can enable depends on [your Attio plan](https://attio.com/pricing).

Multiple pipelines let you manage different deal flows and sales motions separately in Attio. For example, as a software business, you may sell multiple different products or want one pipeline for new business and one for renewals and expansions. As a [venture capital firm](https://attio.com/help/reference/industry-guides/vc), you may want one pipeline for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities and one for managing LP relationships and fundraising rounds.

Attio supports two approaches to managing multiple pipelines, and there are some factors to consider when choosing the right one for your business.

## Decide which approach to use

Before setting up your pipelines, consider the following:

- How similar are your pipelines? Are they related or separate processes? Think about the attributes and stages each pipeline requires.
- What objects are associated with each pipeline? For example, one pipeline might relate to the standard Companies object while another relates to the standard People object.
- Do you want all pipelines in one report, or should they be separate? Attio’s reporting tool supports one data source per report, which affects the approach you choose.

### Option 1: Use the Deals object with a select attribute to separate pipelines

This works best when your pipelines share the same stages and attributes, and you want to report on them together. Each pipeline becomes a filtered view of the Deals object, so you don't duplicate your data model. In the table below, you’ll see examples of when this is a good approach.

| Scenario | Select attribute | Example options |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------- | -------------------------------- |
| Separate sales teams handle small and large customers. | Segment | SMB, Enterprise |
| The Sales team close new business while Success own renewals and expansion. | Deal type | New business, Renewal, Expansion |
| Each region wants their own view to run their sales process. | Region | NA, LATAM, EMEA, APAC |

[Learn how to set up the Deals object with a select attribute to separate pipelines.](https://attio.com/help/reference/how-to-guides/creating-multiple-pipelines#using-the-deals-object-with-a-select-attribute-to-separate-pipelines)

### Option 2: Use separate objects when pipelines differ

This works best when pipelines differ significantly in data, stages, or associated objects. Each pipeline lives in its own object, so reports on these pipelines stay separate and can’t be combined.

In the examples below, Deals is the [standard Deals object](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/objects/manage-standard-objects) and every other object is a [custom object](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/objects/create-and-manage-custom-objects).

| Scenario | Objects | How the pipelines differ |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| You onboard and manage partners as well as selling to customers. | Deals, Partnerships | Partners move through recruitment and onboarding rather than a sales cycle, and are usually managed by a separate partnerships team. |
| You sell software subscriptions alongside professional services. | Deals, Services | Software deals go through a demo and trial, services deals need scoping and a statement of work, and a different team often sells each. |
| A VC firm sources investments and raises funds from LPs. | Deals, LP commitments | Investments move companies through due diligence and relate to Companies, while LP commitments track capital from LPs. |

## Using the Deals object with a select attribute to separate pipelines

> Only admins can enable, create, and manage objects and attributes, so the steps that follow must be completed by an admin.

This approach keeps all pipeline records in the Deals object and uses a select attribute to differentiate between pipelines. You then create a filtered view for each pipeline.

### Enable the Deals object

[Deals is a standard object](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/objects/manage-standard-objects) that might not be activated by default. If you don’t see the **Deals** object under **Records** in the sidebar on the left of Attio, follow these steps to activate it.

- From the workspace switcher in the top-left, navigate to **Workspace settings > Objects**.
- Find **Deals** in the list and click the **Activate** button.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1698x882/cdff77be5b/cleanshot_2026-03-25_at_12-06-212x.png)

The Deals object is now available in your sidebar. It includes system attributes such as Deal value, Deal owner, Deal name, and Deal stage.

### Add a pipeline attribute to the Deals object

1. Open the **Deals** object from the sidebar on the left.
2. From the ⋮ icon in the top-right, click **Object settings**.
3. Open the **Attributes** tab.
4. Click **Create attribute** to [add a new attribute](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/attributes/create-manage-attributes).
5. Set the attribute type to **Select**.
6. Name the attribute in a way that reflects the split, for example, **Segment**.
7. Add an option for each pipeline you want to track, for example **SMB** and **Enterprise**.
8. Click **Create attribute**.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1626x1178/7ce3b11f00/cleanshot_2026-10-15_at_16-01-242x.png)

Tag each deal record with the relevant segment value.

### Create a filtered view for each pipeline

This allows you to view each pipeline separately.

- Open the **Deals** object from the sidebar on the left.
- Click **[Filter](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/views/filter-and-sort-views)** and set the filter to **[Attribute] is [option]**, for example **Segment is Enterprise**.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1248x512/5984d26d72/cleanshot_2026-10-16_at_09-46-242x.png)

- Click the arrow on the **Save for everyone** button and click **Save as new view**. Give the view with a descriptive name, for example **Enterprise pipeline**.

  ![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1121x765/c92ad2e1e8/cleanshot_2026-03-26_at_13-34-24.png)
- Repeat these steps for each additional select option.

Each saved view now shows only the deals tagged with that value.

### Customize visible stages and attributes per view

Each view can show different stages and attributes, so you can tailor each pipeline view to show only what’s relevant.

**To manage visible stages:**

- Open a pipeline view.
- Navigate to **View settings > Visible columns** to see all available stages.
- Add any stages specific to this pipeline, then toggle off stages that don’t apply.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1160x736/f577440f24/cleanshot_2026-03-26_at_13-11-322x.png)

The pipeline view now shows only the stages relevant to that pipeline.

**To edit or reorder your deal stages:**

> Editing or reordering options in the Deal stage attribute applies to every view in the Deals object. To show different stages in each pipeline, hide stages in each view as shown above instead of deleting them.

1. Open the **Deals** object from the sidebar on the left.
2. From the ⋮ icon in the top-right, click **Object settings**.
3. Open the **Attributes** tab.
4. Click the ⋮ icon next to **Deal stage** and click **Edit attribute**.
5. In the **Statuses** dropdown, you can rename or reorder statuses by clicking and dragging. You can delete statuses using the ⋮ icon.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/800x577/40222109da/cleanshot_2026-10-15_at_11-12-29.gif)

Deals in every pipeline view now use the updated stages.

**To manage visible attributes:**

- Open a pipeline view.
- Click **View settings**.
- Under **Visible attributes**, add or remove the attributes relevant to that pipeline.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1160x736/7326814474/cleanshot_2026-03-26_at_13-11-152x.png)

Changes made to one view’s settings don’t affect other views.

### Report on your pipelines

All pipeline records live in the Deals object, so you can [create a report](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/dashboard-and-reports/reports) that covers every pipeline together or a single pipeline on its own.

> **Note:** Segmenting reports isn't available on the **Free** plan.

**To compare all pipelines in one report:**

1. Select **Reports** in the sidebar and open a dashboard.
2. Create an [Insight report](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/dashboard-and-reports/set-up-an-insight-report).
3. Under **Data source**, select **Deals**.
4. Under **Grouped by**, select **Deal stage**.
5. Under **Segmented by**, select your pipeline attribute, for example **Segment**.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/2682x1832/0134c01676/cleanshot_2026-10-22_at_15-57-042x.png)

The report shows each stage broken down by segment, with a key above the chart.

To report on a single pipeline, add a filter that matches your pipeline view. Under **Filters**, click **Add filter** and set the condition, for example **Segment is Enterprise**.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1048x514/4622df09fc/cleanshot_2026-10-22_at_16-03-322x.png)

Users on paid plans could also achieve this using the **Included values** dropdown under **Segmented by **to choose a segment to report on.

## Give each pipeline its own object

> Only admins can enable, create, and manage objects and attributes, so the steps that follow must be completed by an admin.

This approach uses the Deals object for one pipeline and a custom object for each additional pipeline. Alternatively, you could create custom objects for each pipeline if the Deals object doesn’t fit your needs.

Use this option when your pipelines require different stages, attributes, or associated objects.

### Set up the Deals object for your first pipeline

Use [the standard Deals object](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/objects/manage-standard-objects) to track your first pipeline. You don’t need a pipeline select attribute here since each object represents a single pipeline. See the [Deals object’s default system attributes](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/objects/manage-standard-objects) for a starting point, and add any [additional attributes](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/attributes/create-manage-attributes) you need.

### Create a custom object for each additional pipeline

- From the workspace switcher in the top-left, navigate to **Workspace settings > Objects**.
- Click **[New custom object](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/objects/create-and-manage-custom-objects)**.
- Name the object to reflect the pipeline it represents, for example **Partnerships**.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1648x636/4f4914fddf/cleanshot_2026-03-26_at_13-18-162x.png)

The new object now appears in your sidebar on the left.

### Add attributes to the custom object

> **Tip:** If your pipeline data already lives in a spreadsheet, you can create attributes as you [import it via CSV](https://attio.com/help/reference/imports-exports/csv-imports/import-data-into-attio-via-csv). When you map columns, click **+ Create new attribute** for any column without an existing attribute.

Add the attributes your pipeline requires. For each attribute:

- Open the custom object from the sidebar on the left.
- From the ⋮ icon in the top-right, click **Object settings**.
- Open the **Attributes** tab and click **[Create attribute](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/attributes/create-manage-attributes)**.
- Select the attribute type and name it.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1672x1488/92ac914f55/cleanshot_2026-03-26_at_13-20-192x.png)

For example, a Partnerships object might include:

- A Stage attribute (status type) with statuses such as Prospect, Call booked, and Disqualified.
- A Name attribute (text type).
- A Value attribute (currency type).
- A [relationship attribute](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/attributes/relationship-attributes) linking your new custom object to the standard People object, or to whichever object is relevant to this pipeline.

### Show a name instead of the Record ID

By default, custom object records display a system-generated Record ID. The [Record text](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/objects/create-and-manage-custom-objects) is the main identifying attribute for each record, shown in the top-left corner of the record page and in the first column of views. Set it to a text type attribute that holds each record's name, such as the Name attribute from the example above.

To set the Record text, open the custom object's **Object settings** from the ⋮ icon in the top-right, then open the **Appearance** tab. Under **Record text**, select your name attribute. If you don't have one yet, you can create a text type attribute from the same selector.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/1676x1010/21ec9b93f8/cleanshot_2026-03-26_at_13-20-412x.png)

Records display the name you've assigned instead of the Record ID.

### Create a view for the custom object pipeline

- Open the custom object from the sidebar on the left.
- [Choose between creating a ](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/views)**[Table](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/views)**[ or ](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/views)**[Kanban](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/views)**[ view](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/views) as your first view and give it a name, for example, **Pipeline**. If you’re creating a Kanban view, you need to select or create a [status type attribute](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/attributes/create-manage-attributes).
- Add the attributes you want to display with the **+ Add column **button, or by going to **View settings > + Add attribute to view**.

![](https://a.storyblok.com/f/234930/2174x946/0efdcb7800/cleanshot_2026-03-26_at_13-22-532x.png)

You can move records through stages directly from this view.

### Report on each pipeline

When each pipeline has its own object, each object is a separate data source in reports. One report can't combine several pipelines, such as total pipeline value across Deals and Partnerships. Create a report for each object, or use [Option 1](https://attio.com/help/reference/how-to-guides/creating-multiple-pipelines#using-the-deals-object-with-a-select-attribute-to-separate-pipelines) if you need combined reporting.

1. Select **Reports** in the sidebar and open the dashboard you want to use, or [create a new dashboard](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/dashboard-and-reports/dashboards).
2. [Create a report.](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/dashboard-and-reports/reports)
3. Under **Data source**, select your custom object, for example **Partnerships**.
4. Under **Grouped by**, select the object's stage attribute, for example **Stage**.
5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 for each pipeline object, including **Deals**.

Each report shows one pipeline's records by stage, and the dashboard shows all your pipelines in one place.

## FAQ

### Can I have more than two pipelines?

Yes. For Option 1, add more values to your pipeline select attribute and create a corresponding filtered view for each. For Option 2, create a new custom object for each additional pipeline.

### Can I use different stage names for different pipelines in the Deals object?

Yes. Add all stages to the Deals object, then use each view’s **View settings > Visible columns** to show only the stages relevant to that pipeline.

### Why is my custom object record showing a Record ID instead of a name?

You’ll need to [update the display name setting](https://attio.com/help/reference/how-to-guides/creating-multiple-pipelines#show-a-name-instead-of-the-record-id). Navigate to **Object settings**, open **Appearance** for the custom object, and select a text type attribute to use as the display name.

### Can I associate a custom pipeline object with Companies and People?

Yes. Using [relationship attributes](https://attio.com/help/reference/managing-your-data/attributes/relationship-attributes), you can link records in the standard Companies and People objects with your custom pipeline records.
